Obama’s Rick Warren Problem, Israel’s Weapons, and the Bush Environmental Legacy

Posted in: Episodes

Rick Warren, who believes abortion should be criminalized and opposes gay marriage, will deliver the invocation at Barack Obama’s inauguration next week. When first announced the decision sparked a lot of outrage. Obama has since announced that the first openly gay Bishop in a major christian denomination, Gene Robinson, will also deliver an invocation. Equal opportunity? Not quite.

On GRITtv Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority and the founder of Ms. Magazine, Faye Wattelton, President of the Center for the Advancement of Women, Jane Hamsher, the Founder of Fire Dog Lake, and Kenyon Farrow, a Policy Institute Fellow at the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) discuss whether Obama has made amends.

Then, a report on the environment. Looking back, and looking ahead. The Bush years have been bad. How bad? We speak to Christy Goldfuss Preservation Advocate for Environment America on what to expect from the Obama administration and whether last minute regulations can be reversed.

Also, an interview with Sarah Leah Whitson of Human Rights Watch on Israel’s use of white phosphorous bombs over Gaza. HRW reported last week that Israel has used white phosphorous in its war on Gaza.

Finally, a poem from Remi Kanazi, the editor of Poets for Palestine, an anthology of poetry, spoken word, hip-hop, and art.

Thanks to Unscrew America for video in tonight’s show.
