Not only is Walmart the country’s largest employer but it has the largest number of employees who receive Medicaid, food stamps and public assistance. Today the NYT reports that bi-partisan support is growing for tax credits for businesses that create new jobs. But what kind of jobs? Walmart jobs or jobs that pay real wages?
Nelson Lichtenstein, Pat O’Neill, Mark Moore, and Matt Ryan on Walmart’s brave new world of business and its impact on working people.
Followed by an interview with Bethany Moreton, author of To Serve God and Walmart: The Making of Christian Free Enterprise.

Just out of curiosity, GRITtv, how much do you think standing at the door and smiling is worth?
When your Congressional representative is Hon. John Boehner, bought and paid for by corporate America, you can’t look for reform from Congress. One of the root causes of this Walmart corporate philosophy, is the lack of campaign finance reform. What would happen if campaigns were limited to 90 days, and corporations held to the same $1000 (new limit) contribution limit to political candidates? Get rid of PACs.
Wouldn’t it make sense that if you were the largest employer that you would likely have the largest number of employees receiving assistance? How about using percentages.

Another great idea by the retards in washington. Spend more money to get people to hire people they don’t need, or they would have already hired them.
If I hear tax credits one more time I’ll throw up. The best thing to put this Country back to work, is give it a project to work towards. We need to get off foreign oil. We need to quit burning coal. We need to rebuild our infrastructure. All of these things could have been done cheaper than what they already have spent trying to stimulate the unstimulateable.
We could have gotten off foreign oil, by changing to existing fuels. We could quit burning coal by using water power, which is avaiable and could be so cheap as to supply almost free electricity. Our infrastructure, could be rebuilt by the unemployed, not by high priced contractors. Our tax minded politicians think only of taxes, tax credits, tax exemptions, and tax cuts. These are the things that have made this Country unsustainable, because they spend more than they get, and borrow above that. Yet these politicains have been heard to cut up people who borrowed above their means, making them out to be the scum of the earth, while never looking in the mirror.
