There’s no denying that George W. Bush was good for satire. Nearly everything he said and did was fodder for late night comedians. Stephen Colbert’s famous appearance at the White House Correspondents’ dinner was only the high point of eight years of good political humor. So what will the comedians do now? And has political satire lost its edge?

If the past week is any indication the answer is clearly no. Indeed, satire hardly seems necessary. President Bush had shoes thrown at him at a press conference in Iraq, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich tried to sell a Senate seat, and Vice President Dick Cheney, in his farewell interview, said that he has no regrets. You can’t make this stuff up!
