Thank you for participating in today’s live stream. You can see the full program here at 8 pm. Join us again tomorrow at noon eastern for our live panel.
Labor unions were a big part of Barack Obama’s victory. What would they like to see from the president elect? Universal healthcare for one and a huge stimulus package might be starting points. There’s also the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make it easier for unions to organize. Perhaps as a measure of how ambitious the effort will be, the anti-union and pro-business Chamber of Commerce said: “This will be Armageddon.” But will Obama be able to turn around the decades long decline in union membership? And will unions have a role in reshaping American capitalism?
Today on GRITtv we are joined by ED OTT, GREG DENIER, and BHAIRAVI DESAI.

Since health care costs are a huge part of the auto industries debts, how about giving auto workers and retirees the same health care the senators enjoy and give it to them now. Wouldn’t that be a scream, campaigning on health care for all and actually starting it right out the gate? Ohh that sounds like a race horse to me. I know this would only entail a section of Americans but why can’t we chip away at it a little at a time. This is what the GOP’s have been doing to Row vs Wade. Should we play by their example? We need to start some where. Auto industry gets health care Jan 21, 2008.
If we wait and let the auto industries go bankrupt it will damage what little power the union has left which is what I think the auto industry leaders want to do anyways.
