How significant is the youth vote and are they building tomorrow's progressive majority? Michael Connery sees a trend in youth turnout and it's leaning left. Young voters turned out in large numbers during the presidential primaries. Who are they and what are they after?
Connery is active in HeadCount, a nonprofit that registers young voters at live music events and a frequent contributor to True Majority. He sat down with us recently to talk about the emerging youth voter and his interest in building a new progressive majority. Connery is the author of Youth to Power: How Today's Young Voters are Building Tomorrow's Progressive Majority.

The youth vote is obviously significant if they show up. I have been involved with increasing the youth vote for the last four years on several college campuses in Ohio. The shift is huge, droves registered and many voted early.
The campuses in Ohio have had an explosion of voters. The DNC, Obama campaign, Move on, Power Vote and other organizations have all participated by increasing involvement.
