Live From Main Street and GRITtv continue our week of special programming. Today, technology, voting machines, and the future of democracy. In November, one quarter of the country will be voting on paperless electronic voting machines. Yet, questions have emerged about partisan contractors programming the machines that will count the vote. And come election day, it may not be possible to conduct a recount in a number of swing states if the vote is close. Why? There will be no paper ballets to verify the vote.
Here to discuss what we can do and how we can ensure our vote is not stolen are Steven Rosenfeld, senior fellow at AlterNet and the author of Count My Vote: A Citizen's Guide to Voting, Deanna Zandt, media technologist and consultant to the Hightower Lowdown, and Bo Lipari, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Verified Voting.
