The line is, if Sly Stone hit it with Joni Mitchell, who hit it with Led Zepplin, who hit it with an entire gospel choir, the urban love child would have to be called Toshi Reagon. Have a listen and see what you think.

Toshi says that her big band Big Lovely is like a traveling church, bringing the gospel to uplift the people. In the form of music, of course, rock, soul, her own special blend.

For the singer/songwriter, the current moment is one of great possibility. She is flat out excited about this election year and when she’s moving you to tears, she’s moving you to the streets, too.

She’s working on an opera based on a book by Octavia Butler with her mother Bernice Johnson Reagon, one of the founders of the legendary group Sweet Honey in the Rock.
