Tonight on GRITtv we have three big interviews. Former LA prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, the author of The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, discusses the possibility of putting the president on trial. There’s a real chance that the case will move forward and Bugliosi discusses recent developments for the first time here on GRITtv.
We also talk to NY Times reporter Steven Greenhouse, the author of The Big Squeeze: Tough Times for the American Worker on what the financial crisis means for the regional economy. Lehman, Merrill Lynch, and AIG make up a sizable chunk of the city’s economy. And job losses will extend well beyond investment bankers and traders.
And we have footage from a very large rally outside the library in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday. The organizers, "Alaska Women Against Palin," expected about 100, but turnout topped more than 1,400. A local shock jock, Eddie Burke, announced the rally on his show, calling the organizers "a bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots," and read their home phone numbers over the air. The women received some nasty phone calls, but ended up with a wildly successful demonstration.
Finally a segment taped at the DNC in Denver with Governor Don Siegelman of Alabama. As a leading Democrat governing a Red State, he was a target of the Rove political attack machine. Now that time is running out for Congress to hold Rove in contempt, will they act? All that and more on GRITtv.
Thanks to The Freeway Blogger for sending us his Freeway Blogging, Doug Devitre for the Predatory Shark video, and the anonymous Alaskans who sent us Alaskan Women Against Palin.

A report today in the Wash post on Cheney’s fabrication of Hussein Al-Qaeda links. According to former GOP leader Dick Armey Cheney knowingly misled him.
“Did Dick Cheney . . . purposely tell me things he knew to be untrue?” Armey said. “I seriously feel that may be the case. . . . Had I known or believed then what I believe now, I would have publicly opposed [the war] resolution right to the bitter end, and I believe I might have stopped it from happening.”
The revelations appear in a new book by Washington Post investigative reporter Barton Gellman.
Also, a recent AP story on the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. The group has sued Cheney seeking a court order that he comply with the Presidential Records Act.
“Given the unlawful policies and directives of the defendants, there is an imminent threat that even before the end of this administration, Vice President Cheney and the OVP will destroy, transfer, or otherwise dispose of many of the vice president’s records under the theory they are personal records and therefore not covered” by the law, the lawsuit stated.
Here’s more on the Gellman book:

Why has there been such a problem holding the Bush administration accountable? Why was the previous Republican controlled congress so negligent in their responsibilities in regard to holding those responsible for creating and dessiminating t false WMD intelligence, the lies repeated in the run up to the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq? And why have the Republicans stood in the way of the Democrats efforts to hold the Bush administration accountable for these crimes?
Do you think it is only lies under oath about blowjobs that get the Republicans Justice juices flowing. Why not an INTELLIGENCE SNOWJOB that has directly resulted in the deaths of thousands, thousands injured and 5 million Iraqi refugees? What is with their priorities?
There is a hearing on the “rule of law” on C-SPAN.org with Sen. Feingold and others. It’s pretty interesting. I dont know if anything will happen. It started at 10:15–but it will still be availble. In case youre interested.
If their is any justice left in the U.S. Bush, Cheney, and Rove will one day stand before a fireing squad for treason.
Mr. Bugliosi, I thought you performed a significant public service in your indictment of Bush v. Gore, and your indictment of Bush is in the same category. I think Americans in general are in denial about what has happened to them under Bush — and unfortunately, it seems likely to me they won’t admit to themselves that Bush and Cheney are war criminals until they no longer hold office.
Incidentally, I thought the discussion of Bush’s ancestors in the intro post is particularly notable in this regard, because they are part of the historical record about how those in charge have eluded consequences for the atrocities they’ve been responsible for.
Prescott Bush was responsible for a significant amount of American capital going to Germany to help finance the Nazi war machine in the 1930s. His culpability included continuing to do business with the Nazis even after the outbreak of war. He faced potential charges of colluding with the enemy (his Union Bank assets were seized), but historians have concluded that after the war, there was a kind of gentlemen’s agreement to overlook these “indiscretions” because they involved so many masters of industry.
I hope that does not happen here.
Incidentally, was Prescott Bush involved in the crash of the Hindenburg in May 1937?? War mongers hated the
majestic ships because they were practical non-violent machines.
Great program, Laura!
More power (and the opportunity to use it!) to Vincent Bugliosi!!
Wouldn’t it be great if ‘consequence’ were to visit Bush and Cheney?
No, we should expect no less, and without such consequence, they. will. be. back.
And we ALL, all human beings, all life forms and our only home, the planet Earth, will suffer. It is not merely the nation which is at dire risk, but literally everything.
These, last eighr years represent the most capital of crimes …
Palin/Mc$ame would be, in essence, a ‘resurrection’, and the Dark Agers would have everything in their grasp right(!) until the ‘End Times’ Sarah so desperatly covets.
David:
We know it will though. After all, if Pelosi took impeachment off the table and hasn’t followed up with subpoenas, what do they have to fear?
I’ve never seen anything indicating P. Bush was involved in the Hindenburg crash. Besides, the static-spark theory always seemed the most likely to me.
Well, there’s always the Hague.
Bugliosi mentions the prosecution for the murder of American soldiers, but what about the murder of Iraqi civilians?
Okay never mind. @14. Bugliosi spoke of being unable to find jurisdiction for the murder of Iraqis. However . . .
Didn’t other governments bring charges against Pinochet? How come they don’t do this with Chimpy?
I agree with Siegelman. This country is in a dangerous place, if the DOJ is all partisan apparatchniks, no matter what party. And it’s a nonpartisan issue.
