Republican pacifist? Sounds like a contradiction. Well, it’s not. Jeannette Rankin was the first woman to hold a seat in Congress – all the way back in 1917, representing Montana. She remains the only woman Montana has sent to Congress. Remarkably, Rankin voted against both WWI and WWII. Now that’s a Republican woman we can get behind.
Rankin, who is the subject of a new film by Kamala Lopez, "A Single Woman," was not only a Republican, but also a life-long pacifist.
There will be a special screening of the film on Sunday, September 21 (International Day of Peace,) at the Culver Plaza Theater in Culver City. RSVP to kamala@asinglewomanmovie.com.

I saw Jeanmarie Simpson in the play “A Single Woman” a couple of years ago in Fresno, CA. It was awesome. I have ordered a copy of the DVD of the film and can’t wait for it to arrive.
