America has never taken well to third parties. In fact Democrats often seem more hostile to third party insurrections than Republicans. Ross Perot, unlike Ralph Nader, never became a door mat for the Republican Party and he won significantly more votes than Nader ever dreamed of. That election wasn’t as close, but who knows what would have happened had Perot been absent. What does that say about the big tent? It may not be so big after all.

But there are real differences and the divisions go deeper than the media’s facile obsession with Hillary versus Obama supporters. There are for example differences on economic policy and foreign policy that point up real weaknesses within the Democratic Party platform. There are questions about Obama’s support of "clean coal" and ethanol. We’ve covered the healthcare issue in detail and know that many are dissatisfied with Obama’s plan.
