Tuesday's big pitch from the Democrats was an end to the Failed Economic policies of the GOP. We'll take a look at what Obama's offering on the economic front, and hear from supporters and critics. Then if you decide to take the leap, will your vote count? In the run up to the biggest voter registration drive in history, we'll hear what you can do to ensure your vote counts. And with a lot of people asking whether there's a place for them in the Democratic party -- we welcome a woman who's often been alone on the House floor and on the outs with the Party leadership. Rep. Barbara Lee will be with us, in studio. Her first convention (1972!) was as a delegate for Shirley Chisholm.

Here's the rundown:

Distinguishing the Dems from the GOP on the economy is easy. Obama is going to raise taxes, may tax oil companies, will raise capital gains tax and says he’ll spend heavily on public works and create jobs. But other parts of the Democrat’s plan sound more like Robert Rubin that Reich. Emissions credits trading, the continuation of so-called free trade. Some see the influence of the Friedmanites at the University of Chicago, where Obama taught.

To think it through… we’ll talk to two panels of guests:

FIRST. Tom Woodruff Director of the Change to Win Strategic Organizing Center and Executive Vice President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Paul Lopez, City Councilman in Denver who was elected as a progressive from a background of union organizing and community activism.

THE COUNTERPOINT from some folks who are not buying the hype about Obama...they don't see his program as one which will bring economic quality and social justice to working people. To give us, a different perspective on what political change is imperative in 2008 we welcome Rosa Clemente, a community organizer, independent journalist and Hip-Hop activist, and Green Party running mate to Presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, as well as Sansara Taylor, writer for Revolution and CounterPunch. Taylor is on the Advisory Board of World Can't Wait -- Drive Out the Bush Regime.

COUNT MY VOTE!
The DNC has pledged $20 milliion dollars for a community-based voter registration drive -- they and the Obama campaign plan to train thousands of new community organizers and register millions of new voters between now and November. It's a departure for Democratic presidential campaigns: The '08 effort is seeking to blend the best aspects of community organizing, with established, nuts-and-bolts voter outreach tactics. Sounds hopeful? Not so fast, Voting Integrity experts are worried. Will all those new registration forms overwhelm clerks, will they be processed? Will the voters dodge purges? Be accepted at the polling places -- and when they cast their vote, will it be counted - as cast?

Our panel: Steve Rosenfeld, Senior Fellow at Alternet.org and the author of Count My Vote, A citizen’s Guide to Voting which has launched a campaign for zealous monitoring of voting rights going into the 2008 elections. Joe Richey, electoral activist & researcher from Boulder, CO. Scott Rafferty, lawyer who sued the Veterns Administration in 2004 when the agency blocked voter registration efforts by Democrats at its campus in Menlo Park, California, but allowed the Republican Party onto the campus to register voters. Mimi Kennedy, actress/activist, co-chair of Progressive Democrats of America.

Thanks to cinemocracy.org and Mr. Bosley Productions for the voter vox pops from their short, Demokratia.

And finally, Rep. Barbara Lee. A voice in the wilderness, Lee was the only member of congress who voted against the authorization of the use of force following the attacks of 9/11, essentially questioning the notion that a war on terror was a sensible way to respond. With a lot of people asking whether there's a place for them in the Democratic party -- we welcome a woman who's often been alone on the House floor and on the outs with the Party leadership. She's coming out with a book next month, "Renegade for Peace and Justice." She's co-chair of the Congressional Progressive and Anti-poverty Caucuses, and since 1998, she's represented California's Ninth District of Oakland -- it's our honor to welcome Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
