Guitarist and singer Gary Lucas, "The thinking man's guitar hero," joins us in our studio to perform a new song he's written about Barack Obama. Need an anthem for the convention? Well, listen here.

Lucas, who recorded with the late Jeff Buckley, discusses what the blues mean to him and why he finds echoes of the art form in everything from Celtic to Jewish and African music. He recently returned from a trip to New Orleans, which he says still looks like a war zone. But the spirit of music there lives on.

Lucas and his long time band, Gods and Monsters, perform live in New York September 6 at the Bowery Poetry Club's Howl Festival. Here's the interview, and studio performance of his new Obama song . . .
