Hakakian, who's quick to point out that her organization, the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, receives US State Department Funds, says that what she's hearing from Senator Barack Obama simply repeats what Washington's said for years. What she urges instead, is for any new administration to set a bold course, less about tit-for-tat with Tehran, and more driven by US interests.
Flanders and Hakakian clearly have their differences about US influence in the region and the role of states-side law makers in influencing Iranian politics, but it's a fascinating conversation. For feminists, for example, and those concerned about women's rights: is there a middle ground between doing nothing and being a puppet of empire?

While googling to learn more, I came across this video at FORA.tv:
Lila Azam Zanganeh: Uncensored Iranian Voices
Haven’t finished watching it yet, but it’s quite good.
From the description:
Obama skipped town last fall when the Kyl Lieberman warmongering amendment on Iran cam up for a vote. When he could have made a solid anti-unnecessary war statement and voted NO NO NO on this amendment as Senators Biden and Dodd did his commitment to diplomacy and negotiations with Iran would have been demonstrated.
Instead he stood on the fence, left town, played it safe instead of making a solid stand. We have been hearing the same warmongering zealots who lied our nation in Iraq repeating unsubstantiated claims about Iran for 5 years. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I don’t trust Obama on the Iran issue.
Yeh, RIGHT ON! I agree.
