The economic crisis can no longer be ignored, says Danny Schechter in his latest salvo, Freddie Mac, When Are You Coming Back? Schechter’s new film, In Debt We Trust, explores the disturbing role of banks and credit companies in fomenting what some are calling modern serfdom.

According to Schechter, “My hope is that this film will spark a national response–a demand for economic fairness and justice, regulation in the public interest, along with a heightened sense of personal responsibility by consumers seduced by the false promise of ‘free money.’” Watch a clip from Schecter’s new film here on GRITtv.

And on tonight’s show Schechter, Hendrik Hertzberg of the New Yorker, and Logan Nakyanzi Pollard of Air America on the New Yorker cover controversy, the housing crisis, and the best and worst of the past week.
