In this segment Laura talks with Susan Koch, an Emmy and Peabody award-winning filmmaker and director of the new documentary "Kicking It," which follows six homeless men—a war refugee, heroin addict, and foster kid among others– who become football players in the Homeless World Cup (for more on the film go to kickingitthefilm.com). The film opens in NY on June 13, and in selected cities across the USA June 20th.
Grassroots Football
| By: GRITtv Wednesday June 11, 2008 12:00 pm |
As euro cup 2008 attracts the attention of paparazzi in Austria and Switzerland, a different kind of tournament is making headlines. Perhaps not as glamorous, the Homeless World Cup, an annual international football tournament, seeks to “use football as a trigger to inspire and energize people who are homeless to change their own lives.” And it’s doing just that. The event has changed the lives of thousands of men and women living on the edge and has helped initiate grassroots football projects in over 60 nations.
