A Generous God profiles Iraqi refugee women and young girls forced to flee to Syria and bear the consequences of this war — a shocking reality for young single mothers, widows, and teenage girls being pushed over the edge. They have lost their parents, husbands and brothers, and are now struggling to survive – and provide for their children and families. Here are teenage girls, who not long ago only worried about exam results and boys teasing them in the neighborhoods of Baghdad…now all a distant dream.

Prostitution is only one part of these shocking stories. The bigger picture is a far more disturbing account of a nation whose women are desperate, lonely, neglected and unable to raise its next generation. A Generous God is being directed an Iraqi filmmaker who lives in Europe. You can also write immediately to your Congressional Reps and urge them to support Senator Ted Kennedy’s bill S.1651 and Ed Blumenthal’s H.R. 2265 – which among other things will begin to allow at least 5,000 Iraqi refugees into the U.S. S.1651 establishes categories of vulnerable Iraqis who would be given priority for admission to the U.S. as refugees. These include persons who have been targeted because of association with Americans, as well as members of religious or minority communities who have close family members in the U.S. The bill also creates a special immigrant visa for Iraqis who were employed by or who worked directly with the U.S. government.
